Getting excited for the long Fourth of July weekend? We can't blame you! We know you probably have plenty of fun planned, but before you kick things off, take a few minutes to ensure that you and everyone else will enjoy a safe, as well as fun, celebration.
If you are spending the day on Lake Lavon or any other waterway, remember that rules of the road apply when you are on the water just as they do ashore. And make sure that all of your passengers have a life jacket.
Block the Sun
Break out the sunblock and use it liberally all day. Be sure to find a product that is waterproof, and reapply after going in the water or participating in any strenuous activity. Use a full-spectrum product that is at least an SPF 15 or higher, depending on how sensitive you are to the sun.
Whatever your activities, make sure you drink plenty of water and other liquids. Dehydration can sneak up on you and ruin your day, plus it puts you at risk of heat exhaustion or heat stroke.
Plan a Party
Have a Fourth of July themed party and invite everyone you know. Cant’ afford it? Make it a potluck cookout and you may be surprised at what you friends bring to eat. Just provide the grill, the location, and the invite and you can have your own private celebration.
Make Celebratory Cocktails
Beer, the most common drink when grilling out, is all right if you have a taste for it, but some would prefer something a little different. Summer cocktails will cool you down. While some are simple and others more complex, make sure that you have all of the ingredients on hand then have some fun making these concoctions and sharing them with your friends.
Find Your Fireworks display
Several fireworks displays are scheduled around Allen on the Fourth of July. If you plan to attend one of these events, get there early to stake out your space. For those who are creating their own fireworks displays at home, be careful when handling fireworks and keep them out of the hands of unsupervised children.
Whatever you do on the Fourth of July, take extra measures to keep you and your family safe while enjoying the celebrations. Don’t want to cook? Stop by Papa Lopez Mexican Cantina before heading out to the see the fireworks and enjoy our authentic Mexican food. Kids under 10 eat free on Monday and Tuesday all summer long, so treat the family to something different for the celebration of the nation.
